Zou Art is the internet presence for the artwork and related projects created by Alice Zou. The aim of this project is to setup both a domain and web hosting to enable her to blog and manage her projects from anywhere at any time. This is an experiment to set up using technologies freely available on the web. I am using http://tom.rochester.id.au/ as an example site to determine if google sites is suitable for her portfolio site. Using Google Apps I have setup the following services:
All this for $10US a year (domain registration costs) as Google Apps Standard is completely free. The process was extremely straightforward as we also registered the domain through Google Apps and setup of the above services took a couple of hours, including user setup and training. The details of template creation and customization of http://www.zou-art.com/ will be added to this page as the project progresses. If google sites does not meet the needs of Zou Art we may be looking at hosting on http://www.squarespace.com/ however the hosting costs seem exorbitant for someone wishing to host their own domain. The main aim of this project is to get Zou Art setup for the smallest cost of ownership possible. |
